On Sunday, we held a little family gathering to celebrate Bug being baptised. I’m not going to lie, the baptism was nice and all, but what really got me excited about the whole thing was THE DECORATIONS!!! 🙂 It’s pretty much the only reason that I love to host parties. Well that…and all the leftover food.
When decorating, I always try to make most things myself. I think it adds a little something special to the decor, and makes each event stand out a little different from the rest. In this case, I stayed clear of the traditional decorations. No glittery crosses for this gal.
If you follow me on Pinterest, you most likely noticed my recent obsession with burlap and lace. This combination is so pretty and sweet, and I thought that it would be perfect for this event. While lace can be pretty pricey, I planned most of my ideas out in advance and then stalked Fabricland until some went on sale.
I have a buffet in my dining room that is perfect when hosting events. I change my mind daily if I want to keep it or get rid of it. While it’s perfect in some ways, it doesn’t have enough storage for all my goodies, therefore making me want something new. But…it’s so pretty. I can’t decide. Anyway! As a backdrop, I just cut up strips of lace and tied them to some string and hung them off the picture frames I have above it. This was a last minute idea I came up with, mostly just because I had some leftover fabric that I wanted to make use of. But it turned out to be really pretty looking. You could easily do this for any party, maybe instead of using fabric, which can be expensive, you could use party streamers from the dollarstore.
Ahhh, my fabric pompoms… They make me happy. They were a lot of work, taking way longer then I thought they would, but sooo worth it! They turned out perfect and definitely made for a pretty hanging centrepiece to the room. I have gotten a few requests from people saying that they would purchase some, and it has now led to me thinking of starting my own Etsy shop… Something to think about I suppose! I created a little how-to tutorial that I am going to share, maybe next week.
How cute is this cake banner?! I saw something similar on Pinterest, for a wedding, and right away thought of trying it for Bug’s cake. It turned out perfect! So did the cake. It was my first time making a tiered one. Besides pacing in front of the oven while it baked, and trying to stop my hands from shaking while icing it, it was a pretty stress-less task.
And now for the star of the show! I really didn’t feel like purchasing a dress for her to wear during the ceremony, considering she would only be in it for roughly a half hour. So I just used the dress that I was baptised in.
I made her headband too. I couldn’t find one that I liked, so I just went to H&M and picked up some cute flower hair clips. Then I ripped them off the clip and hot glued them to one of my headbands. When it comes to crafting, a glue gun is a girls best friend.
